The Belgian Central Coast: from Wenduine to Middelkerke

The Central Coast: from Wenduine to Middelkerke

The Central Coast comprises - almost logically - the seaside resorts situated in the middle of our Belgian coast: Wenduine, De Haan, Bredene, Ostend and Middelkerke together form a place where especially those interested in sun, sea and culture and/or architecture will quickly feel at home. Each coastal town on the Central Coast has its own 'identity' with up to completely listed districts. You will not get bored here.

Artful sojourn

Artful sojourn

In addition to the extraordinary architecture, art also characterizes the Central Coast. Spread over 40 different public locations on the Central Coast, you can go and admire various works of art by both well-known and lesser-known artists. This can be done on foot, by bicycle or by car.

Moreover, Ostend is home to several major museums such as Mu.ZEE (Museum of Contemporary Art), the James Ensor House, the City Museum, the Museum Ship Amandine... The Fishermen's Chapel in Bredene is also definitely worth a visit. Do you prefer to stay in the healthy outdoors? Then stroll around Ostend's city center in search of impressive street art.

Architectural individuality

Specific to the Central Coast is the variety of architectural style per seaside town. If you walk across the border from one seaside town to another, you will immediately notice it in the buildings and surroundings. For example, De Haan is built entirely in Belle Epoque style, Ostend is known for its pronounced and very diverse architecture and the buildings in Wenduine blend seamlessly into the dune-filled surroundings.
